In this process, I became fascinated by the graphic conventions
of flexible digital spaces. I looked to the original encyclopedia
to see how it directed readers.
Web design proposal for an interactive digital edition of the encyclopedia of Diderot, D’Alembert, and Voltaire for France’s Académie des Science project ENCRRE (Édition Numérique Collaborative et Critique de l’Encyclopédie). I initially focused first of all on creating customizable research spaces that would allow readers to move easily between the source text and linked historical information and critical commentary.
This led to experiments introducing these printed
elements into digital spaces.
